To the movies! This week, we’re going to collaborate to make stop-motion videos. This task will include design + props, story, narration, and whatever else the kids want to add, as well as a “show” at the end with concessions. Your child is welcome to devise a vision that includes other kids or to work on their own, but I’m hoping we can incorporate everyone with all of the available jobs.
My kids will bring their iPads and loaded with the free app Stop Motion. The app is easier than playing the pictures together as a movie and offers more control over timing, looping and photo interchange. Your kids are welcome to use their electronics today as well. (I personally am disabling the internet connectivity for my family’s devices.)
Alison is bringing a projector, so we’ll likely start with inspiration from other stop-motions. To show your kids how it’s done, start here, then see here (award winners), here (clay overview + how to), here (breakfast example), and here (Shopkins) for inspration.
For content options and set design, Becky is bringing LEGO, Leah is bringing stuffies and/or Shopkins, and I am bringing colored clay. We also have a whiteboard available in the building if anyone wants to bring markers for that.
We’ll have an official “showtime” between 1-1:30pm, complete with concessions + a theater-style arrangement indoors. (Kids are encouraged to make tickets as well.) Yes, these “movies” will be super short, but concessions are an unnecessary, added joy. Please bring a packaged snack that can be portioned into cups to be sold/shared inside (!!!) while we watch.
Leah is googling squishee stuff. If you have extra balloons at home, bring them and any ingredients that might feel cool as stuffing: sand, foam balls, sponge bits, etc.
Games + Activities Table
We will continue to share a table of games, puzzles and/or crafting materials. Bring whatever calming materials your kids enjoy + can share.
