This was pretty popular last time, so we’re excited to tie-dye again! We’ll be taking turns, dying wet items in shallow bowls or tubs. I have a set of colorful dies + plenty of rubber bands, plus a shibori kit to share, but no extra dye-able gear. Adults are welcome to dye too! Please bring something to tie-dye (t-shirts, shoes, socks, hats, kitchen towels – really, anything white!), and don’t forget to wear clothing you won’t mind getting stained. The dyes are in squirt bottles and everyone had colorful hands all week! You’ll also need a plastic bag or tub to safely carry your items home. They’ll have to sit overnight in the dye before rinsing/washing, so save your car seats.

Messy painting – There’s a lot we can do here, including finding materials for natural paintbrushes. Let’s use our leftover tie-dye bottles + add thinned tempura paint. It’s nontoxic + washable, so we can also paint the sidewalk + trees – tho let’s try not to do the playground to keep it off other kids’ clothing. Hang pages from trees to paint Jackson Pollack-style. If anyone’s interested in puffy paint, we can use a few of the bottles for that too. Paint on paper plates, microwave it 30 seconds, + it puffs. The kids find it very rewarding.
Let’s also pick countries for our International Potluck this week, so our little planners can start their process + the parents among us can guide plans + purchases.
This week, please bring:
Stainable clothing + shoes (or bare feet for the messy parts?)
A white item or two to tie-dye
Sunscreen, lunch, snacks + drinks for your people
Any other game or craft your kiddos want to play!
