It’s time to organize our summer camping! For those who haven’t camped with us, we reserve a group spot, then split the cost based on how many families attend. Some are more pricey, so I’ll give an estimate + a final tabulation 1-2 weeks before the trip. I’ve already paid for these, so the spaces are reserved. If they fill up, rent an adjacent campsite to stay in + hang out with us!

May 14-16 Camping at Sand Dunes National Park

We’re going three weeks later than last year’s trip in the hope of getting more water in the stream + less chill overnight. Wish us all luck! We did two side/field trips last year: hot springs + the reptile park. This year, I’m sure we’ll find something else. Those are always optional + will be posted when it gets closer. If anyone has ideas, I’m all ears!

Two nights at the Sand Dunes in group campsite A, Pinon Flats Campground (inside the park, same exact spot as last year). Tents only! 40-person limit with 9 vehicles. We filled this up last time + I expect the same again, based on how many are talking about it. We usually plan to share a meal or two, potluck-style. If you’d like to reserve a spot, please comment below with which trip, how many people are in your family + how many vehicle slots you require.

The fee depends on how many families attend. We’ll split it up fairly when we know, but I expect somewhere in the $10-20 per night range. (Yep, $10/nite per family x 9 families, or $20 for the trip.)

FULL. If you’re coming, check the current page here.

August 20-23 Camping at Pickle Gulch Park

We’re camping at Pickle Gulch campground, near Black Hawk, again! This place is seriously magical + only 40 minutes from Denver, so if you’d like to come up for the day to play, that’s also an option. The group campground is HUGE (acres) + wild, with plenty of trees, rocks, space to run + pit toilets. You will have to walk your stuff back about 100 yards into the space, where tent pads + bear boxes are provided. Last year they had some wheelbarrows for this purpose that I hope those will still be there. Please note that there is no cell service here – besides occasional, at best – for any carrier.

Last year we did a gold mine tour with some gold panning one day + again, we’ll likely add an optional field trip to the Carousel of Happiness or Caribou Ghost Town (4898 Caribou Rd, Nederland, CO), or wherever else we decide to wander.

We reserved three (3) nights in the Pickle Gulch, Group 1 site. Tents only! 30-person limit. We usually plan to share a meal or two, potluck-style. If you’d like to reserve a spot, please comment below with which trip, how many people are in your family.

The fee depends on how many families attend. We’ll split it up fairly when we know, but I expect somewhere in the $13-20 per night range.

RSVPs so far: Christine (3), Leah (2), Monica (3), Cloe (5), Ari (2), Becky (2), Erin (3), Gray (2)
= 22 ppl (currently $31/family for all 3 nights) 8 remaining spaces, if you’re interested.

To sign up, comment with your name, email + how many are attending. I will prompt you by email to use Venmo or Paypal, probably 1-2 weeks in advance.

Again, you do not need to be a part of the Wildlings group to attend camping (or field) trips. We do ask that you are a homeschooling family with kids in the 5-16 range. If I haven’t met you in person, please introduce yourself in the comments (full name, kids’ names/ages) while signing up.

  1. We can’t make it to Sand Dunes sadly but we’re going to give actual camping a go so we’d love to join at Pickle Gulch

  2. Also texted: Quin and I would like to attend both camping events if there’s room. 2 people.
