M – December 15: Holiday Party!

It’s our last week here together! We’ll celebrate with a potluck lunch, exchange white elephant gifts + load our homeless holiday bags.

M – December 8: Chocolate-Fueled Writing

It’s National Brownie Day, so there’ll be more baking, of course. Let’s organize this first and get our space smelling amazing with a couple batches of chocolatey goodness in the oven. Our second activity today is creative writing with prompts + simple words games like Mad Libs.

M – December 1: Leatherworking

This week, we’ll learn to create an artisan sheath for knives or scissors by shaping, sewing, stamping + burning leather. We will need a couple of large boards and a self-healing cutting mat to protect our tables (you have one, please bring it!), but this is a loud process that uses sharp instruments! We’ll set up a cutting + pounding + stamping stations outside.

M – November 17: Bracelets + Stone Soup

This week, we’ll all be bringing beads and bracelet miscellany to craft together. We’ll set up a table of shared materials to pull from + get to work. If you have any weird beads or buttons you can add to our arrangement, please bring them along. We’ll also be braiding friendship bracelets with embroidery thread, if you have any colors you’d like to share as well. Muffin tins work well as organizers for the various bead colors/varieties, and we’ll need some tape to hold the embroidery arrangements down while we work.

M – November 10: Corvid Party

If you’d like to participate as a corvid, please wear black (or dress as any corvid) + plan to exchange shiny objects, as they are wont to do. If not, we will still make felt treasure pouches + complete a treasure hunt for goodies to put inside!

M – November 3: Candy Science + Sandwich Bar

Now that everyone probably has a few extra candies lying around, let’s use them to set up some kitchen science experiments. Bring a few packets of colorful candies no one will eat (Skittles, Dots, M+Ms, Nerds) + we’ll do a candy sorting game, then set up stations for the following candy-based activities: Candy Core Sampling / Candy Melt / Skittles Rainbow. For lunch, today is National Sandwich Day! Let’s set up a DIY sandwich bar.

M – October 27: Halloween Party

Halloween-themed games + activities will be happening throughout our day together! Please wear your costumes + plan to play! The group text thread has all of the games + prizes that Tasha, Tuesday + Tyrion have planned, so please bring whatever you signed up for – it’s not all listed below.

M – October 20: DIY Costume + Props

Today we’re working on our Halloween costumes – anything that involves sewing, cardboard prep-making, mask +/or costume design. Please bring extra fabric, cardboard, + any sewing machines/materials/needles you’re willing to share. If the kids want to work on play costumes, that’s fair game as well.

FIELD TRIP: Oct 13 – Butterfly Pavilion @ 11a

Monday, October 13 @ 11 am – At Butterfly Pavilion, we transform the way people think about invertebrates. These small but mighty animals that surround us are so much more than people think. They are everywhere, because everything depends on them. They are the hidden heroes of the animal kingdom, and we–you and us–stand on the backs of these tiny giants.

M – October 6: Pasta + Noodles

It’s National Noodle Day + we’re here for it! If you have a family noodle recipe you’d like to share, especially one where you shape the dough into something besides long strips, please bring it! Otherwise, we’ll take turns prepping this easy pasta recipe + using either rolling pins or a pasta machine to make noodles. You can literally shape your pasta into anything you’d like + then we’ll cook it in small batches.
