It’s National Brownie Day, so there’ll be more baking, of course. Let’s organize this first and get our space smelling amazing with a couple batches of chocolatey goodness in the oven. Our second activity today is creative writing with prompts + simple words games like Mad Libs.

M – December 1: Leatherworking
This week, we’ll learn to create an artisan sheath for knives or scissors by shaping, sewing, stamping + burning leather. We will need a couple of large boards and a self-healing cutting mat to protect our tables (you have one, please bring it!), but this is a loud process that uses sharp instruments! We’ll set up a cutting + pounding + stamping stations outside.
M – November 17: Bracelets + Stone Soup
This week, we’ll all be bringing beads and bracelet miscellany to craft together. We’ll set up a table of shared materials to pull from + get to work. If you have any weird beads or buttons you can add to our arrangement, please bring them along. We’ll also be braiding friendship bracelets with embroidery thread, if you have any colors you’d like to share as well. Muffin tins work well as organizers for the various bead colors/varieties, and we’ll need some tape to hold the embroidery arrangements down while we work.
M – December 16: Feliz Navidad
It’s our last week with a kitchen space for awhile, so let’s make the most of it! We’re doing group tacos as part of la fiesta de navidad.
M – November 11: Vintage Kitchen Science
We’re cooking quirky recipes from generations past. Today’s dish: Tomato Soup Cupcakes, made with canned tomato soup. Yum…. Let’s also do blind tastings behind a veil of absolute secrecy!
M – October 28: Wizard Craft!
We’re going to start the day by eating donuts off of a string, a longstanding tradition! Please bring donuts to cover your people (one per person). It’s fun, funny + a great way to work for your breakfast – adults are encouraged to participate! We’ll set up at the little park directly across the street down the pathway and off to the right (west). We’ll have to size everyone in real time (holding a string up to their face, real fancy-like), so plan on walking across the street right away.
M – October 21: Day of Apples + Fairy Tales
Let’s celebrate National Apple Day by cutting up apples to eat together by lunchtime – or whenever your people are bored + hungry. Please bring an apple or two to cover your family. If your kids want to add caramel or cinnamon, please bring it. We’ll slice apples + leave them to share.
M – October 14: Build-a-Business Day
This morning, Erin + Tiffany will introduce the idea of famous/catchy slogans/logos + show some examples. We’ll then set up stations to let everyone create their own slogan, mission statement, and logo. We will provide some business ideas for anyone that doesn’t want to create their own or let the kids pick their business.
M – October 7: Wild Art + (Cup)cake Walk
It’s also baking time! Those who are interested can help to bake several sets of cupcakes today. We do have loads of small bakers, so we’ll probably need to bake in parent- or teen-lead groups. I’ll bring the other ingredients (oil + eggs), cupcake trays + liners.
M – September 23: Bird-Watching + Watercolors
We’ll be birding while we wander down the Clear Creek Trail together with guidebooks + binoculars. If your kids are into this, please bring binoculars or a camera to document what you see. Those of us with birding hobbies will bring our guidebooks to share.
