M – November 10: Corvid Party

If you’d like to participate as a corvid, please wear black (or dress as any corvid) + plan to exchange shiny objects, as they are wont to do. If not, we will still make felt treasure pouches + complete a treasure hunt for goodies to put inside!

M – November 3: Candy Science + Sandwich Bar

Now that everyone probably has a few extra candies lying around, let’s use them to set up some kitchen science experiments. Bring a few packets of colorful candies no one will eat (Skittles, Dots, M+Ms, Nerds) + we’ll do a candy sorting game, then set up stations for the following candy-based activities: Candy Core Sampling / Candy Melt / Skittles Rainbow. For lunch, today is National Sandwich Day! Let’s set up a DIY sandwich bar.

FIELD TRIP: Oct 13 – Butterfly Pavilion @ 11a

Monday, October 13 @ 11 am – At Butterfly Pavilion, we transform the way people think about invertebrates. These small but mighty animals that surround us are so much more than people think. They are everywhere, because everything depends on them. They are the hidden heroes of the animal kingdom, and we–you and us–stand on the backs of these tiny giants.

M – September 22: Outdoor Jamboree

Outdoor Jamboree – Please bring anything your kiddo(s) like to use on pavement. The plan is to close off the top parking lot with a line of cars + make obstacle courses out of our giant space. We also have gymnastics equipment to share (Thanks, Erin!) + I will bring sidewalk chalk. The kids can use 3-wheels, scooters, skateboards, bikes – whatever they like. If you can fit it into your car, you can bring it!

M – September 15: Gross Science

Today we’ll be collecting germs in an agar solution that we can prep, infect, label + watch grow visible colonies over a matter of weeks. Be prepared to also mix up a batch of fake vomit or mucus as well. If you have extra petri dishes at home, we’d love to borrow them for a few weeks!

M – December 9: Engineering + Lego

It’s LEGO day! We’re going to set up a few, timed challenges – tallest tower, sturdiest bridge, longest build, etc – and get started working with bricks that way. From there, we can add a more specific challenge, if people are interested, or else it devolves into a building free for all. Let’s see whether we can’t build a whole town over the course of the day.

M – December 2: Cookies + an Obstacle Course

Let’s start the day by setting up an obstacle course. We’ll clear a wide area for physical play + let the kids put this together. If you have any soft, gymnastic-style materials that we can use for this, please bring them. We’re especially looking for pads, floor beams, things to jump over or go around, etc.

M – November 18: Sew Free

We’re sewing + dyeing fabric with vegetable peels. I’ll bring some fabric scraps + my sewing box, but we’ll need more contributions of fabric, felt, thread, + needles.

M – November 11: Vintage Kitchen Science

We’re cooking quirky recipes from generations past. Today’s dish: Tomato Soup Cupcakes, made with canned tomato soup. Yum…. Let’s also do blind tastings behind a veil of absolute secrecy!

M – April 22: Earth Day + City-Planning

This morning, we’ll start with a game of Red Rover, then dive into today’s theme. We’ve got some seasoned LARPers + cosplay kids. We’ll see if we can find the edges between these two things + navigate an overlap? A merger? Wear/bring a costume + let’s set a scene together!
